KASUMI NO YAMA

A collaborative work by Carbonic Design Office and Nishijin Brocade has been made into an art panel. Wakana Mizuno of Carbonic Design Office painted the mountains of Tachikiyama, Shiga, where she was born, and the surrounding environment, as she believes that the source of her craftsmanship is in her hometown. This is a triptych in which the mountains of spring, summer, and autumn are expressed with the vibrant silk threads of Nishijin Brocade, a tradition that has been in place in Nishijin, Kyoto for over 1,200 years. This one depicts the "Misty Mountains" in spring.

The fusion of modern design and traditional techniques has created an original work of art with an exotic shimmer.

Nishijin-ori, a traditional craft handed down in Kyoto, uses beautifully dyed colored threads to weave patterns. Nishijin-ori is known as a high-class silk fabric produced in small quantities in many varieties, with its exquisite patterns and vivid colors created by sophisticated techniques. Nishijin brocade,” which uses gold and foil threads, is particularly glamorous. Since the Heian period (794-1185), when the belief in the Pure Land spread, Nishijin brocade has been used to decorate the interiors of shrines and temples as a gorgeous solemn decoration to express “paradise”.

About FUJIE TEXTILE

Fujie Textile was founded over 130 years ago, in 1885, when Fujie Imaichi established a textile manufacturing business in Nishijin, Kyoto. After a temporary closure due to the war, the business moved to Tokyo shortly after the war and reopened as a fabric wholesaler. In an era when anything sold like hotcakes, Fujie Ryoji was determined to provide high-quality fabrics that met his own aesthetic standards. He was involved from the planning stage onwards, visiting thread makers, weavers and dyers to create unique fabrics. The pursuit of quality, the creation of unique products. This is where Fujie Textile began, which continues to this day.
