Ikuo Hirayama
IKUO HIRAYAMA
On June 15, 1930, in Setoda-machi, Hiroshima Prefecture, Ikuo Hirayama artist was born (currently Onomichi City). He graduated from the Department of Japanese Painting at Tokyo Fine Arts School. He worked at Tokyo University of the Arts after graduating from art school in 1952, and he retired as president in 1995. He was President of Tokyo University of the Arts again from 2001 to 2005. In 1998, he was awarded the Order of Culture. Furthermore, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador and Special Advisor for World Heritage in Tokyo. He became Director of the National Museum of Contemporary Art on a special appointment, head of the Foundation for Cultural Property Protection and Art Research, which promotes cultural property red cross activities, and so on. Ikuo Hirayama passed away on December 2, 2009 (age 79).
