Yoshitaka Hayakawa
YOSHITAKA HAYAKAMA
In 1954, Yoshitaka Hayakama (Giko Hayakawa) earned the Minister of Education Award, the top award at the 5th All Japan Student Oil Painting Contest. When he was in the second grade at Chiba Prefectural Higashi Katsushika High School, and the same award the following year, in 1955. He studied at Musashino Art School along the way, but dropped out in despair. Yoshitaka spends his time part-time working at his parents' cafe. In 1962, he won the Prime Minister's Award, the Minister of Education's Award, and the Honor Award at the 6th Shinkaijusha Exhibition. He also took part in the sixth Yasui Prize Candidate Exhibition. Giko Hayakawa's work has been offered at auction multiple times, with realized prices ranging from $288 to $3,232, depending on the size and medium of the artwork. Since 2013 the record price for this artist at auction is $3,232 USD for Red Melody, sold at Mainichi Auction, Tokyo in 2013. Yoshitaka Hayakama passed away on July 25, 2012.
